Friends,

In 2020, I received an invitation that changed my life. My friend Mary Morgan asked me to help her stay at home to die. Mary had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and didn’t want to go to the hospital. Together with two other friends, I became part of Mary’s “dying team.” 

Over the next sixteen months—through the pandemic—we learned about end-of-life paperwork, designed ceremonies, built Mary’s casket, and laughed and cried together about life, death, and grief. It was a strange invitation, but one ripe with gifts. Mary believed that ordinary people have the capacity to care for those who are ill, aging, dying and grieving in our communities, and she wanted us to share what we had learned. I’ve dedicated the last three years to writing her story.

I’m thrilled to announce that The Last Caravan: The Power of Community at the End of Life will be published in Winter 2026 by Caitlin Press.
